A new concept for wallets has arrived from the postman.
Minimal and utilitarian, the envelope wallet carries style and keeps your pocket light.
Birth
The envelope wallet was conceived by our very own, Professor, whom we now call Prof. Postman. The first versions were cut from waxed canvas, with a piping made of scrap leather from bag makers in Sion, Bombay. Folded in half, with notes on one side and cards on the other, the envelope wallet fits perfectly in a camiz or pant pocket.
Gifting
Professor gifted a wallet to each of us. We loved it, and gifted him with our own creations. More friends came knocking, and exchanged other goodies that would win the Professor’s heart. Hoping to swap more and buy less, he continued to make wallets for his artist friends.
Less Money Less Problems
In his own, tan leather version of the wallet, Professor carries fewer rupees, with room for other things like tiny polaroids of his favourite ppl and moments. How sweet. The concept of wallet expands from a money-storage-purse, to an everyday envelope to carry your most beautiful items.
Barter Starter
As an experiment in raising the value of exchange, the envelope wallet has become our symbol of buying less and bartering more. Our good friend Shane Solanki puts it:
This is the age of collaborative consumption; the rapid explosion in traditional sharing, bartering, lending, trading, renting, gifting, and swapping reinvented through network technologies on a scale and in ways never possible before.
Professor Postman has already bartered over 100 wallets to friends and fellow artists in the first 2 months. From greek olives to plane tickets, whatever is of value to you today, can come your way. Facebook and other networks make it easy to trade with friends, so why not. Make it, share it, swap it.
